A joint LGBTQ and Black Lives Matter march in Manhattan on Sunday led to clashes with NYPD cops.
The crowd of hundreds, some of whom carried banners against police brutality and waved rainbow flags, clashed with officers after arriving at Washington Square Park in West Village from downtown Foley Square.
Tensions flared after officers saw 29-year-old Brooklyn resident Michael Dunn allegedly smash a black-marked police car around 4:30 p.m., police sources said.
Singing “Hands up! Don’t shoot! ” The protesters clashed with the horde of police officers, screaming at their faces, showing videos and photos. Some of the protesters and police did not wear face masks.
At one point, one police officer appeared to have been sprayed with pepper, and another fell off his motorcycle as other officers backed the crowd back, according to the video.
Millen Dang, a 20-year-old from Brooklyn, who was later arrested, allegedly said another officer was hit in the nose, sources said.
At least one other protester, Jacob Kruger, 25, of New Jersey, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer outside the park.
The march was organized by the Reclaim Pride Coalition and was called the Queer Liberation March.
It was held on the same day that the city broadcast a virtual Pride celebration live to replace its famous annual parade due to the coronavirus.
