Lesley Manville replaces Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret in ‘The Crown’

Oscar-nominated Lesley Manville for “Phantom Thread” will replace Helena Bonham-Carter in the role of Princess Margaret in the final season of the multiple Emmy award-winning Netflix series “The Crown.”

“I couldn’t be happier playing Princess Margaret,” Manville said in a quote on the Twitter feed “The Crown.” “The witness is being transmitted by two formidable actresses and I really don’t want to let go of it. Also, playing the brothers with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be a complete joy ”.

Staunton was announced in the role of Queen Elizabeth II in January, replacing Olivia Coleman. Vanessa Kirby played Princess Margaret, the Queen’s younger sister, in the first two seasons, before Bonham-Carter took over in the third.

Manville earned both Oscar and BAFTA nominations for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread”. She is the narrator for the hit HBO series “Love Life.”

“The Crown”, whose creator Peter Morgan was nominated for an Oscar for “Frost / Nixon” and “The Queen,” is produced by Left Bank Pictures for Netflix. The fourth season expires later this year and the fifth and final season will premiere in 2021.

In 2017, “The Crown” won Emmy Awards for supporting actor John Lithgow, production and costume design. In 2018, she won Emmy Awards for lead actress Claire Foy, director Stephen Daldry, cast directors Nina Gold and Robert Sterne, cinematographer Adriano Goldman and costumes.

Manville is in the reboot of the BBC series “Talking Heads by Alan Bennett”, and will also be seen in the movie “Let Him Go”, opposite Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, and in the black comedy “Everything I Ever Wannted to Tell My Daughter About “Men”, directed by 21 women, including Maryam d’Abo, Saffron Burrows and Jodhi May, based on a play by Lorien Haynes.
