Leila Cavett: Arrest made in Georgia mother mysterious disappearance

Leila Cavett, 21, was last seen July 26 in South Florida, just hours before her 2-year-old son, Kamdyn, was found without running into the apartment complex in Miramar, running George Piro, the special agent in the service of the FBI’s field office in Miami.

Piro said the woman arrived in Florida alone with her son a day before she was last seen and spent time in Hollywood, Miramar and Fort Lauderdale Beach for her “very, very mysterious” disappearance. He added that her son “is safe and is being cared for.”

According to a criminal complaint filed on Monday, federal authorities in South Florida arrested Shannon Demar Ryan on kidnapping charges. While the criminal complaint filed refers only to the victim through her initials, LC, details of the complaint make clear that the Georgia mother, Leila Cavett.

The complaint begins with the previously known details in Cavett’s disappearance, including her son, referred to as KA, who was found only in an apartment complex around 26. It remains to be said that legislation was in search of her white middle until late- ’90 Silverado 3500 pickup truck, which police previously reported and released images of.

Her car was found July 28 in Hollywood, Piro said in a statement last week. The complaint then describes how police found the truck and connects Ryan with her disappearance.

LC’s car was last seen in a Walmart parking lot on July 27, according to a check of license plate readers, per complaint. Law enforcement supervised the truck and “on July 28, 2020, Ryan approached the LC truck with the keys in hand,” the complaint read.

Police questioned Ryan and he claimed he had been known since January 2019, according to the complaint, and that she had come to Florida to sell her truck to him.

Cavett’s family has no idea why she’s going to Florida, according to Javaron Buckley, a lawyer hired by the family. She only has distant relatives in Tampa, the attorney said earlier.

The complaint also states that Ryan is placed on the apartment complex minutes before surveillance materials and records from mobile phones minutes before KA was found. Law enforcement also discovered that Ryan had used the CLs (sic) debit card and purchased large garbage bags, extra strength carpet odor eliminator and duct tape, the complaint says.

CNN has reached out to Ryan’s lawyer for comment.

Last week, the FBI announced that it was seeking the help of the public for information in locating them. Piro said authorities believe people “are aware of the circumstances surrounding Leila’s disappearance in their municipality while some leave the area.”
“Often members of our community have information of value but do not come forward because of concerns that it may not be important,” the agent said, according to a Twitterpost. “I urge you to come forward, even anonymously.”
