FRISCO, Texas – Leighton Wonder Esch is back.
The Dallas Cowboys activated the linebacker from the injured reserve to play Monday against the Arizona Cardinals, five weeks after Vander Esch underwent surgery to repair a broken collarbone in the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
Wonder Esch has practiced over the past two weeks and led the Cardinals game through three full workouts, including a full-padded session.
Wonder Esch had four tussles before injuring him in the first quarter against Rams. Prisoner Smith took over as defensive signal-killer in the absence of Wonder Esch, and Jo Thomas moved to his middle linebacker position.
On Saturday, coach Mike Markarthy said he was encouraged that Vender S would return after entering through two practices without any issues.
Asked how the Wonder Woman looks after following last Friday’s practice, Smith said, “He looks like a Wolf Hunter himself. I’m happy to have him back working here, I’m just kidding him. I’m just excited for him. I’m just happy. Nor can he do what he chooses. “
The Cowboys placed Tristan Hill on the injured reserve with a quarterback post presscoat and defensive hull. Prescott suffered a fracture and dislocation of his right ankle and Hill tore his anterior cruciate ligament in last week’s win against the New York Giants.
The Cowboys signed practice-team defensive action Justin Hamilton on the active roster to replace Hill and called up Safety Steven Parker and Center Marcus Henry from the practice squad.
