Marcelo Bielsa’s team has won their last four games and sits at the top of the table with 87 points before Sunday’s game against Derby.

Leeds has struggled to return to the Premier League after years of financial mismanagement and insecurity.

After his relegation in the 2003-04 season, several players were released or abandoned on free transfers, and the club was also forced to sell its training ground and stadium to repay the loans.

The club was relegated to League One at the end of the 2006-07 season and spent three seasons in the lower division.

Bielsa’s appointment at the start of the 2018-19 season has been a turning point for the club despite the disappointing end to last season.

Leeds spent much of the season in automatic qualifying places with Norwich, but a losing streak towards the end of the season saw them lose promotion in the playoffs.

In the Premier League, Norwich has been relegated to the Championship with other teams struggling not to join them.

West Ham faces Watford in a crucial draw on Friday with both teams to three safety points. Aston Villa and Bournemouth occupy the relegation places with 31 points each.
