Leaving UFC for Bellator was ‘no-brainer’

Corey Anderson is excited to start a new chapter in his career as he points to a throwback to a key element of his past.

Anderson (13-5 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) was released by the UFC and quickly signed with Bellator, where he looks forward to closing the promotion as a direct supporter of the lightweight heavyweight title.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Anderson explained the decision-making process that led him to choose Bellator.

“The end thing I came across was, at the end of the day, it’s a calculated risk just like a fight.” Anderson said. “Both organizations, the UFC and Bellator, have the same risks. You can go out and be cut out, arm broken, anything can happen. Well, one has the UFC belt, one has the Bellator belt. One has no sponsors, one has sponsors. One pays you only a medium, while the other pays you your value. That is the calculated risk that you will take. ”

After weighing the offerings and judging by these significant differences between the two promotions, Anderson, who has won four of his last five fights, came to the conclusion that moving to Bellator was clearly the right decision for him and his team. family.

“I will take more money, a belt, more opportunity, and the same risk I would in top organization,” Anderson said. ‘So, for me, it was a no-brainer. I would be stupid if I gave this chance because I wanted those three letters for the word ‘champion’. So I went from UFC to Bellator because of that. ”

The fact that Anderson is able to fight with sponsors who decorate their fighting shorts and training T-shirts opens up additional opportunities for earning, and the fighter, formerly known as’ Beastin ’25/8′, proved that, although he still plans to fight under his newer moniker of “Overtime”, his old nickname might get a second life in his time as a Bellator fighter.

“I can bring sponsors back, and ‘Beastin’ 25/8 ‘is my business brand,” Anderson said. ‘That I can just put’ Beastin ’25 / 8 ‘on the shorts and the name’ OT ‘still rep. Because the company is still ‘Beastin’ 25/8, LLC ‘- all my shirts and everything comes from Beastin’ 25/8. That name will be on the shorts. You hear it here, people! The name will get back on your pants! ”
