Leaker Jon Prosser, who has a somewhat mixed record of predicting Apple’s plans, said today that new iPhone 12 models and new iPads will be released in October.
Multiple rumors have suggested that some or all of the iPhone 12 models coming this year will see a post-normal release. Apple generally introduces and launches new iPhones in September, but problems caused by the global health crisis have resulted in manufacturing delays.
Just today, Qualcomm hinted that one of its 5G partners will see a “slight” delay in launch, a statement that probably refers to Apple. Apple plans to use Qualcomm’s 5G chips in all new iPhone 2020 models.
We don’t know exactly how long iPhones will be delayed so far, but Apple could introduce new devices in September and then launch them later, as happened with the iPhone XR in 2018. October is a relatively safe assumption, as Qualcomm suggested the delay won’t be too long. Long and other rumors have also pointed to a release in October.
Prosser did not provide information on which iPad models will see an update, but there have been some rumors suggesting that an iPad Pro with a mini-LED display is in the works, though most information suggests that the launch has been delayed until 2021.
The PiPad Pro has already been updated this year, but Apple hasn’t yet updated the low-cost iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad, so everyone was able to see minor renovations.
There have been some specific rumors indicating that Apple is working on an 11-inch iPad Air with a touchscreen and a touch ID below the screen, and if need be, that would be the most notable iPad update on the horizon.
Prosser has accurately predicted some of Apple’s launch plans, but has also shared incorrect information, such as suggesting that Apple planned to rename the “iPhoneOS” iPhone and provide false images of an AirPower-type wireless charging pad. Some of his claims have also been somewhat outrageous, such as the suggestion that Apple is working on a set of Steve Jobs’ Apple Glasses, heritage edition, inspired by the glasses Jobs wore.
Earlier this week, Prosser said Apple will launch a new iMac in August.
