Neo (Keanu Reeves) is probably “The One” fan The Matrix franchise, but we can not ignore the influence of the only Morpheus, portrayed by Laurence Fishburne. Whether it had become his way as his royal style (shout-out to those sunglasses without temples), Morpheus was the man.

As you may know by now, a fourth installation of The Matrix comes, now known as The Matrix 4. For those of you who deliberately forgot that there was a third Matrix (what is called a short dream The Matrix Revolutions) Because of how bad it was, I knew the number “four” would come as a surprise to you. But, yes, the fourth Matrix are directed by Lana Wachowski and although the plot details are a mystery, we know that there is a packed cast: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett-Smith who reprise their roles as new characters portrayed by Yahya Abdul -Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra and Neil Patrick Harris.

You may have noticed the omission of Laurence Motherfucking Fishburne. That, because he will not be in there, friends. I’m sorry, what ?! Yes, I report on this news and respond to the news in real time. The shocking news comes straight from Fishburne, himself.

‘I’m not invited. Maybe that will write me another play. I wish her well. I hope it’s great, ”Fishburne recently told New York Magazine, via The Wrap.

Fishburne knows that Morpheus is one of his favorite characters and that he’s cool with it. He is also pleased with the fact that he has played many more roles from which he will be remembered.

‘It is probably the role where I will remember best that is great; it’s not the only thing I’ll be remembering, which is better, ”noted Fishburne. ‘What I get with [Morpheus] is I have Darth Vader in this hand, and I have Obi-Wan in that hand. I have Bruce Lee, I have shuffled Muhammad Ali in there, and I have kung fu. ”

Exactly. There are so many sides to Fishburne to choose from. I mean, shit, he did not even mention playing Ike Turner What Has Love To Do With It, which precedes The Matrix and is an iconic performance that sat in a special place in the hearts of the Black community (as well as earning a 1994 Oscar nod).

As The Wrap notes, Morpheus dies in the multiplayer game, The Matrix Online of which apparently is a part The Matrix canon, but fans believe his death was forged. Stranger things happened in 2020, so maybe Fishburne can surprise us and pop into the movie after all. There’s still time for such surprises, as Warner Bros. pushing back the release date to Spring 2022 due to the production shutdown caused by the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
