Before kicking off SmackDown, Adam Pierce assured that security has been beefed up since what happened at SummerSlam and with the show on security. Vince McMahon was present on the backstage and sent Adam Pierre on a mission to get the signatures of Roman Raines, Bravo Strawman and The Fand Bray Wyatt on the match contract for the Universal Title Bout at Paymanback.

Jeff Hardy started the second night at the WWE Thunderdome just two days away from Pebek. Hardick went to the mic and was talking about his first title match since his win last week. A.J. Styles stops him and calls him a cheater to use his knee brace in the match.

AJA said he has not been cleared for the competition and Hardik said he is going to give the title shot to anyone but him. AJA slammed Hardik and Jeff punched him down before moving on with an open challenge on SmackDown.

Jeff Hardy (C) vs. Shinsuk Nakamura – Intercontinental Championship match on SmackDown

We returned after the break to see Shinsuk Nakamura in the ring with Hardik. Nakamura was hit by a snap palmer takedown and was in good control of the match. Nakamura hit Hardik’s injured knee and took him down, as AJ would cheer him up from the SmackDown commentary table.

Backstage, Shinsuke was not happy without confronting Hardik before telling him first. In the ring, Hardik knocked to his knees and sent Nakamura out before throwing the AJ at the announcement desk. Returning after a second break on SmackDown, Hardik hit a whisper in the wind.

Hardik hit Nakamura with knee strain and followed with a twist Fate Fate and Swanton bombs to win on SmackDown.

Result: Jeff Hardy Def. Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the Intercontinental Championship

After the match, Sammy Zen returned with the original Intercontinental title belt and Jeff was called Impster before kicking him on the ramp. What would this mean for our current champ?
