Las Vegas airport: Man taken into custody after crashing into wing of plane preparing for takeoff

Flight 1367 from Las Vegas to Portland was preparing for takeoff from McCarran International Airport when the pilot spotted a man approaching the plane and notified the control tower, Alaska Airlines said in a statement.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and airport officials took the man into custody, airport spokesman Joe Rajchel told CNN.

The man wrapped a perimeter fence and was inspected by airport staff at 1:40 p.m., Rajshell said.

A video shot by passengers shows a man sitting on the wing of an Alaska Airlines jetliner.

A video shot by the passenger shows the man sitting and walking on the wing. He then removes the wings of the Boeing 737, his socks and shoes before attempting to climb the aerated end of the aircraft’s wing. As police officers approached the man, he slipped off his wings and fell on the star below.

Officers took the man into custody and took him to a medical facility, Rajchel said.

The plane returned to the gate for a full inspection after the incident, Alaska Airlines said in a statement.

The flight was scheduled to depart at 12:30 p.m., but was delayed by 4:48 p.m., according to the Alaska Airlines website.
