LANSING, MI – A dog license helped police return a lost child to his parents in Ingham County last month.
According to Ingham County Animal Control, the incident occurred on June 26 when police received a call from a concerned citizen who encountered a two-year-old boy and his faithful dog wandering the streets of Lansing.
Lansing Police responded immediately and located the boy. He was not injured but was unable to provide his parents’ address or phone number due to his young age. Fortunately, the officer noted that the dog carried an Ingham County dog license.
Animal control was able to provide the officer with the name of the dog’s owner, as well as an address and phone number, and the boy was quickly reunited with his parents.
“I am pleased that animal control was able to help this child reunite with his family. Our thanks to the Ingham County Central Bureau and the Lansing Police Department for a speedy resolution of what could have been a tragic situation, ”said Heidi Williams, Director of Ingham County Animal Shelter and Control.
Also, congratulations to the dog, “Chase” for taking care of his son while taking a walk. Chase is the hero in all of this. “
“This is another great example to show how emergency services working together provide positive results,” added Lansing Police Chief Daryl Green.
