Major League Baseball had already announced the cancellation of the upcoming Cardinals series with the Pirates, meaning they will stick to just 5 games played. They have now missed 13 consecutive games, and it is not yet clear when they will return to play. It is not clear how serious one of the Cardinals’ cases is, although baseball operations president John Mozeliak said a few players went to the hospital, by Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
The Cardinals now have 10 players and 7 staff members testing positive, by Bob Nightengale of USA Today. It is not believed that there will be more positive tests, although the organization has expanded its efforts with contact tracing and vigorous testing will continue. If there are no more newly-discovered positive tests to come, it is conceivable that the Cardinals could play back this weekend. However, in order for that conversation to take place, the Cardinals will only seek successive days without a positive test, by Rogers.
