We’re not entirely sure what’s worse: crashing a new Toyota Supra that isn’t yours or crashing a new Lamborghini Huracan that has only been yours for 20 minutes. Well, just a couple of weeks after someone performed that first trick, another poor soul now knows how it feels to experience the last one.
According to West Yorkshire Police on Twitter, a UK driver picked up a shiny new Lambo this week, a Huracan Performante Spyder to be specific, only to get involved in an accident on the M1 motorway just a sitcom episode later. Before everyone jumps to the easy conclusion that the new supercar owner had to drive recklessly, they apparently weren’t doing anything like that when this happened. Instead, police say the Lambo stopped due to “mechanical failure” before being hit by “an innocent motorist,” completely destroying the rear of the driver’s side of the Italian convertible and knocking down an entire wheel.
According to BBC newsThe innocent motorist in question was reportedly driving a van and sustained minor head injuries. The police also apparently had to shut down part of the highway to move both the Lamborghini and the van.
It is unclear what mechanical failure caused the Huracan to stop in the middle of a busy highway. But if any car-obsessed passerby like us has anything to take away from this, it’s that we now know what pop-up roll bars look like and we’ve now also seen the inside of that ALA rear wing stunt that can deflect downforce.
If only I were able to divert incoming trucks in the event of a mechanical failure.
