Los Angeles residents were shocked by Amber warning-style messages on their cell phones warning of COVID-19 in the city at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The warnings had different messages.
One warned about the spread of COVID-19, “cases are on the rise. Please wear a mask and social distance. ”
Other differences encourage recipients to “get free tests and results in 1 day”.
Angelnos took to Twitter to express shock.
“Has anyone in Los Angeles just received an emergency warning about coronavirus in their phone?” One user wrote. Warning others is called “sarcasm.”

The warning literally landed an hour later.
Garcetti also announced an increase in the city’s testing capacity to more than 30,000 tests, providing approximately 20,000 tests per day, as test positivity rates, hospital admissions and KVID-related ICUs increase. All report sharp increases.
We continue to move forward with our COVID-19 testing to meet growing demand. We now have the capacity to test more than 32,400 people per day at city sites, and we are extending the hours at DJD Stadium from 8 to 8 p.m.

The county reported 2,318 more infections Tuesday, according to the mayor. That’s up from 1,406 last Monday, up from 900 in just one week.
Last week, Barbara Ferrer, the county’s director of public health, said, “If we ever see ourselves with more than 2,000 cases a day, it will lead to more deaths in two weeks.” He probably had no idea the jump would happen so soon.
