Sources told ESPN that the Sacramento Kings have received cash for LA clippers forward Mfindu Kabengel and a heavily defended future second-round pick.
With the deal, the Clippers created an open roster spot ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline and finally the free-agent buyout market, with the 2.6 million hard cap going down. Under hard cap restrictions, the Clippers had to wait until March 30 to sign the player. Now, there are no restrictions on the team’s use of two open roster spots.
The Kings included Cabengel in a trade exception that would have ended on Monday.
Outside Florida State, 6-foot-9 forward Cabengel was the 27th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He rarely played with the Clippers in two seasons, entering 35 games and averaging 4.5 minutes on the P te managed team.
The Kings now have the opportunity to observe Cabengel closely for the rest of the 2020-21 season. The Clippers turned down his third-year option before the season.
