Today, longtime Australian dance-pop queen Kylie Minogue, the real Kylie, no matter what others say, has announced she has a new album called Disk coming out this fall. The new LP follows those of 2018 Golden, and Minogue recorded it with producer Biff Stannard, who co-wrote Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” and has been with Minogue since “Love At First Sight.” The first single from Disk it’s called “Say something,” and it slaps you.
Kylie Minogue has been playing with synthpop and Italo-disco textures for a long time, and that’s the rich territory she explores in “Say Something”. It’s a rich and punchy pop song with a wavy keyboard line, a rubbery guitar riff, and a great gospel-chorus ending. It could have come out at any time in the last 20 or 30 years, and I mean that in a good way.
“Say Something” blends in nicely with the recent singles by great dance-pop companion Annie, and suggests that there is a great return to club-pop foot-comfort. Too bad we can’t go to any club for a while! Take a look at “Say something” below.
Disk It comes out on 11/6 via BMG.
