Kroger stops giving coins to customers in exchange

The Kroger grocery store has stopped changing currencies due to the shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June, the Federal Reserve said there had been a significant disruption to the coin supply chain.

Customers were not going to stores and, as a result, the flow of coins “stopped,” according to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

“The places where you’re going to give your coins, get store credit and get cash, you know, double money, those haven’t been working, the stores have been closed. So the whole system has come to a standstill for, “Powell said, according to FOX Business.

Rather than offering changes to customers, Kroger will give people two options.

Customers can apply it to their loyalty card to use on their next purchase or donate the change to Kroger’s “Round Up” program.

That money will go to the “Zero Hunger / Zero Waste” foundation of the supermarket chain.
