MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian anti-politician Alexei Naval was seen down the stairs in a photo he posted on his Instagram feed on Saturday, a hospital in Berlin said he had taken off his ventilator and could breathe freely.

Navalny, a leading opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin, fell ill in Siberia last month and was flown to Berlin. Germany says it has been determined by laboratory tests in three countries that it was poisoned with a novikok nerve agent, and Western governments have demanded an explanation from Russia.

“Tells me how my recovery is going. It’s already a clear path, though a long one, “Navalny wrote.

Navalny said in an Instagram update that he still could not use his phone and had difficulty trying to pour water into his glass or climb the stairs because his legs were shaking.

“There are still a lot of problems to be solved but the surprise doctors at Charity Hospital have solved the main problem,” the post said.

“They turned me from a ‘technically alive human being’ to someone with a high probability of becoming … a man who can quickly scroll through Instagram and understand where to place his choices without thinking.”
