‘Knight Rider’ Runs to the big screen, but will the ’80s Classic Tank be with fans?

Some fans know David Hasselhoff from Baywatch but for that Knight made him a star. Mitch may have been cool, but when Michael Knight and KITT went after villains, they did it with a dusting off of ’80s TV swagger.

That era remains a goldmine for Hollywood revival, and now fans can add another one to the list with an official Knight restart. That’s right. KITT gets the treatment of the feature film.

‘Knight Rider’ is set to restart

According to Deadline, Knight goes to the big screen in her first major film adaptation. The classic TV shows of the 80’s were broadcast from 1982-1986 and followed Michael Knight after he was recruited by the secret government-oriented FLAG organization.

Knight is one half of the dynamic crime fighting duo, because the other member was the artificially intelligent car named KITT

If you grew up in that period, then you probably wanted to find a car just right. The red scanner light, the snarky one-liners, and the cool stunts made KITT a favorite. Maybe that’s part of the reason James Wan signed up to produce the film.

As of deadline, there are no plot details, but it is rumored that the film will be a modern take on the old property.

There were also several ‘Knight Rider’ spinoffs

For a short time in 2008, Knight came back when restarting a television. It was only aired one season and starred Justin Bruening. And that was not the only reincarnation of the show.

Team Knight Rider picked up in 1997 with a fleet of post-KITT cars and ran one season, and that series was preceded by two films: Knight Rider 2000 (1991) and Knight Rider 2010 (1994).

Back in 2016, Variety reported that Machinima had its own plans for a digital reboot. Those plans were fulfilled and that company has since been incorporated into AT & T’s media gong glomerate.

Fans have their thoughts on a new ‘Knight Rider’ movie

Based on revivals from the past, some fans have worried about hitting the favorite franchise. The involvement of James Wan has excited many people about a new story, but others have ideas about what they want in a new story Knight film.

Op Twitter, there is talk about what type of car will be used in the film with people wondering if Tesla will tackle the job.

Elsewhere, fans have worried that a plot with a futuristic car is not so novel now that we live in technological times. Some Redditors think that the film may be too basic when it comes to KITT or that producers will take the wrong lead.

Names like Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, and Henry Cavill have been thrown by fans, but some just want David Hasselhoff to make a triumphant return as a comeo.

The success of this film is a gamble and will rely on casting, plot, and fan enthusiasm to be a hit. That could happen with Wan on board, but fans hope it doesn’t bomb like any sequel to the ’80s. At the very least, we hope that the original theme song will be incorporated into it as well.
