KFC will sell plant-based fried chicken in these cities


The chain has already served the imitation chicken version of its product, which is made by Beyond meat (BYND). KFC first tested Beyond Fried Chicken in Atlanta for a day last summer, and then served the product for a limited time in Nashville and Charlotte last winter.

The current version will be available in California while supplies last. KFC plans to monitor the results of this test to determine if Beyond Fried Chicken is available nationwide.

About 50 restaurants in California will begin serving Beyond Fried Chicken next week while supplies last.

Fast food chains have joined the trend of plant-based meat as a way to attract new customers, attract old fans, and generate excitement around the brand.

“We are still seeing increased demand for plant-based products,” Hottovy explained. He added that the new plant-based menu items do not add much complexity to restaurant kitchens, especially if the restaurant already serves such products.
