CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland Cavaliers swingman Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested early Sunday morning and faced charges of improperly carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, according to Mahoning County Sheriff’s Records.
State Highway Patrol arrested Porter near Canfield with an I-76. Troopers booked Porter at 7:30 a.m. and released him on a 4 4,000 bond about three hours later, a Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office official said.
According to the booking document, the loaded firearm was accessible to any driver or passengers without leaving the vehicle. Other details surrounding the arrest are not yet known.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kevin Porter Jr. and are preparing to gather information,” Caves said in a statement. “We have spoken to Kevin and we will continue to address this privately with him as the relevant process develops.”
Arriving via Cleveland.com on Sunday afternoon, Porter’s attorney Alex Spiro made the following statement:
“Mr. Porter was issued a summons for a minor offense and was released. We are gathering information and will comment further at a later stage.”
The 20-year-old Porter had a promising rookie season and is considered one of the team’s building blocks. He averaged 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 50 games after being selected as the 30th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of the U.S.C.
