The felony charges against the NFL receiver Kenny Stills and star of ‘Real Housewives’ Porsha Williams derived from a Breonna Taylor protests in Kentucky have been withdrawn … prosecutors say.
But, they are not yet clear.
Stills and Williams were only 2 of the 87 people arrested on Tuesday for protesting in the front yard of the Kentucky Attorney General’s house Daniel Cameron.
The group was calling for justice for Taylor: They want them to arrest the police officer who killed her and charge him with crimes.
The 87 people were initially charged with a felony that intimidated a participant in a legal process, and 2 misdemeanors.
The felony charge is a big problem: if convicted, people face a minimum of 1 year behind bars … and up to 5 if the judge wants to make a point.
But, on Friday, the Jefferson County District Attorney Mike O’Connell He says the serious crime for the 87 people is DRIPPING, with immediate effect.
“After a careful review of the law, I dismissed the felony charge of Intimidate a participant in the legal process against protesters arrested on the property of Attorney General Cameron on July 14, 2020. “
“While we believe the LMPD had probable cause for the charge, in the interest of justice and the promotion of the free exchange of ideas, we will dismiss that charge for every protester arrested last Tuesday.”
The bad news for Stills, Williams, and the other 85 people: O’Connell says misdemeanor charges are still up for grabs … at least for now.
“We continue to review minor crimes and violations for prosecution at a later date.”
Kenny, who plays for the Houston Texans, released a statement after his arrest saying: “Detained for protesting peacefully. While Breonnas Taylor’s killers are still on the street.”
