Kellyanne Conway announced that she was leaving the White House

“I will be leaving the White House at the end of this month. George is also making changes,” Kellyanne Conway said of her husband and frequent Trump critic George Conway in a statement.

“We do not agree on many, but we are united on what matters most: the children. Our four children are teenagers and ‘tweens starting a new academic year, in high school and high school. “At least a few months away from home. As millions of parents nationwide know, children ‘doing school at home’ require a level of attention and alertness that is as unusual as these times.”

Kellyanne Conway is scheduled to speak at this week’s Republican National Convention, but it is unclear if she will still do so.

George Conway tweeted minutes earlier that he reverted to The Lincoln Project – a group founded by anti-Trump Republicans – to “spend more time on family matters.”
Sunday night’s announcement marks an abrupt end to Kellyanne Conway’s high profile time in the White House, where she earned a reputation as one of the president’s most distant – and most controversial – defenders.

She landed her position in 2016 after becoming the first female campaign manager to win a presidential race.

But political tensions with her husband had spilled over into the public eye in recent years.

A lawyer in Washington who was considered early for positions of justice department in the office of Trump, George Conway soon emerged as a prominent critic of the president. His opposition took on new meaning when he joined The Lincoln Project.

Each of the Lincoln Project tenets had aligned themselves with the “NeverTrump” movement in the 2016 election and have since been outspoken critics of Trump and the Republican Party.

Yet Kellyanne Conway maintained in her statement Sunday that “the incredible men, women and children we have met along the way have confirmed my later-in-life experience that public service can have meaning and effect.”

“For all its political differences and cultural divisions, this is a beautiful country full of great people. The promise of America belongs to all of us,” Kellyanne Conway said.

They also emphasize that the decision “is entirely my choice and my vote.”

“At the time, I will announce future plans. For now, and for my beloved children, it will be less drama, more mom,” she said.

This is a breaking story and has been updated with additional details.
