Huffnagel, founder of streetwear company Huff Worldwide, has been battling brain cancer for more than two years. On Thursday its brand announced its passing.
“Today we are really heartbroken to convey the news that HUF founder Keith Huffnagel has passed away,” the company wrote on Instagram.
“This kit was not just ‘HUFNagel’ in HUF. It was the heart and soul of this brand. It created and kept together a community of people like no one else,” the post continued.
CNN has contacted Hoof Worldwide for a statement, but has not heard back.
Huffnagel founded the brand in 2002 after moving from New York to the West Coast.
“The HUF name just stuck with me as a nickname among my friends,” Huffnegel told the complex in 2012. Once I became pro, then I started using it on products and clothing and those people recognized me, ”he said.
The brand’s first store opened in San Francisco, but eventually grew globally, with stores everywhere from Dallas, Texas to Tokyo, Japan.
“Don’t settle for stability. Go out and create your own future – do it yourself, do it with style,” HUF urges the Worldwide website.
Huffnagel said the brand name was “born on the streets,” telling the complex, “After I lived and skated in San Francisco for a while, I decided I wanted to open a retail store with a fuse skateboarding sort.” Sneaker and streetwear scenes. “
In a tribute to its founder, Huff Worldwide closed the Instagram post saying that HuffNagel’s “legacy will continue on HUF. Today, tomorrow and forever. Be at peace, Keith.”
Huffnagel leaves behind his wife Marielen and their two children.
In an Instagram post in November, Huffnagel shared a shot of himself with his son as the pair held hands and a skateboard down the empty road together.
