Voting law attorney Scott Salmon, a registered Democrat, filed the objection with the state Elections Division after reviewing the more than 1,300 signatures the rapper had filed.
West managed to pass the 800-signature requirement to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate in time for Monday’s deadline.

Voting law attorney Scott Salmon filed the objection with the state Elections Division after reviewing more than 1,300 signatures, 600 of which he said were invalid or incomplete.
Many appear almost identical, including lowercase letters with dots and a small circle.
However, Salmon highlighted a number of problems with West’s submission that he described as “notoriously bad, almost to some extent insulting,” Politico reported.
‘Sir. West’s petitions do not contain the valid signatures of 800 qualified voters and should have been rejected by the Division, ‘Salmon wrote.
The petition shows that several signatures appear almost identical, including lowercase ones with a small circle. Some firms lack complete addresses.
West’s spokesman directed questions to what appeared to be a campaign email address. A message seeking comment was sent to that address.
The Elections Division did not respond to an email message seeking an answer.
In the weeks after his presidential candidacy was launched on July 4, the rapper made a series of strange protests on Twitter and held a campaign event in which he burst into tears, raising concerns about his mental health.
His request for New Jersey followed a political campaign and the collapse of Twitter last week, where he talked about how he and his wife once considered aborting and hinted that she had an affair with rapper Meek Mill.

At least 800 signatures are required to appear as an independent candidate, but objections to validity may occur before Friday at 5 p.m.

Those documents were not filed, according to Salmon’s complaint.
Sometimes a similar script can be explained in some of the fields because the so-called circulator completed the documentation after the petition was signed, especially in cases where someone might be short on time, for example, according to Salmon.
In five years as a New Jersey electoral law attorney, there hasn’t been an application as troubled as West’s, Salmon said.
Salmon said he did not file the letter on behalf of any Democratic organization and that he filed the complaint on his own behalf.
New Jersey has been a reliably Democratic state in the presidential election, alongside the Democrat since 1988.
