Kanye West’s Comments on Harriet Tubman Draw Fire From 50 Cent, Q Tip and More

Kanye West’s The first political demonstration was chaotic, rambling, and sometimes downright bizarre.

But it was his seemingly derogatory comments about Harriet Tubman, a landmark figure in American history, that ignited a spark on social media.

Speaking on Sunday in Charleston, South Carolina, where he is trying to qualify for the state vote as an independent candidate, the rap star organized the entire show. He appeared in a military-style vest with “2020” shaved on the back of his head. He spoke about himself, called on God, and began to cry.

This was not your typical rally.

The topic of discussion came when ‘Ye seemed to cast a shadow on Tubman, an abolitionist activist and African-American politician who is remembered for leading dozens of people enslaved to freedom via the subway.

“Harriet Tubman never freed slaves, she just made slaves work for other whites,” was one of West’s comments.

The hip-hop community is not buying it.

50 Cent and Q Tip were among the artists involved. Rapper Noname spoke for many when he wrote: “KEEP HARRIET TUBMAN NAME OF YOUR F — ING MOUTH”.

Other artists, including JPEGMAFIA and Finneas, the producing brother of Billie Eilish, expressed concern about Kanye’s health.

It’s unclear if Kanye is really going to be late to the White House, or if we’re all in tune with a trick. Or an impossible dream. There is a mountain of work to do. For starters, the hip-hop star must submit 10,000 signatures by noon on Monday (July 20) if he appears on the South Carolina ballot for the November federal election.

Kanye was on social media for hours after his unusual performance.
