Kansas City, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs love to take part in Clyde Edwards-Heller’s first NFL run last week. He ran for 138 yards and led the league in the first week of the season.
But Edwards-Heller has one area to improve: running closer to his opponent’s goal line. He got a negative-2 yard in six carry in a goal-to-go situation, and some of his coaches put the blame for it on him.
“The bottom line is, if you follow all the keys that we have to adopt in order to get us into our room, it scores,” said Becks Becks coach De De Land McCullo. As it continues to grow – it made big strides after the last game and it takes another big step in the game – regardless of what the plan is, when we’re down there, it’s time to run back and forth. We do everything we have been coached to do, we do a touchdown. “
McCulloff suggested that Edwards-Heller would be the goal line in Sunday’s game against the Chargers in Los Angeles, saying that if he had followed his keys, we would have had a different discussion about Clyde, as the goal line goes back. ”
Offensive coordinator Eric Binyami said: “Clyde has to do a better job of making it. [the blockers] OK. He understands. He had to behave disciplined and loud on foot, and he saw it. I know, if anything, he’s probably the most crucial person to own his own performance.
“Even though it was a good performance, he knows he left some things on the field that could help us get better.”
Failures in goal-driven plays did not hurt the chiefs. Edwards-Heller got the ball at least once on three drives inside Houston 10 and they came away with two touchdowns and field goals in a 34-26 win.
Edwards-Heller was a physical runner in other parts of the field against Texans. He led the league last week with 67 yards after contact, 19 more than his nearest rival. He was fourth in the average yard after contacting at 2.68.
“He’s announced, as long as he’s able to get people missing, able to run from a low center of gravity, balance of contact, various things like that, vision,” Mc McCalllo said, “but on the flip side, we found out it’s a hoax. “It was the first game. There was no bias. So everything was going on in that game at once.”
