Kamaru Usman opens as a 3-1 favorite at UFC 251 vs. Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal’s first crack in a UFC title on Saturday will have quite a considerable chance against him.

Masvidal (35-13 MMA, 12-6 UFC) has increased less than a week in advance and will challenge welterweight champion Kamaru Usman (16-1 MMA, 11-0 UFC) for the title in the UFC Main Event. 251 at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Masvidal, who is believed to be the main contender a few months ago, was outside watching when Gilbert Burns received the injection. But when Burns tested positive for COVID-19, he was eliminated.

That opened the door for Masvidal to save the main event, but he will do so with Usman as the prohibitive favorite.

According to Best Fight Odds, Usman has opened up to a -320 favorite against Masvidal. That means a bettor would have to bet $ 320 to win $ 100 in a Usman victory. Masvidal, with odds of less than +240, would pay $ 240 on a $ 100 bet.

There are some variations at sports betting houses. Sportsbook.com, for example, has Usman at -260, and Bovada at -300.

Usman has been the front-runner in all of his UFC fights except one: his UFC 235 title fight against then-champion Tyron Woodley. In that fight, he was a +175 loser, but dominated Woodley to win the belt in March 2019.

Masvidal can be used for the loser role. It was normal for him. But after his surprise knockout win over Darren Till and Ben Askren in 2019, he was favored against Nate Diaz last November in their “BMF” championship bout, which he won by TKO.
