The University of Notre Dame began evaluating its student athletes in June and then continued testing in July. Testing continued after the weekend of July 4 and the University provided a new update regarding the test results and things were on the way to the 2020 soccer season.

“A total of 103 Notre Dame soccer student-athletes received the COVID-19 test on Wednesday, July 15. All 103 were negative, according to University physician Dr. Matt Leiszler. One soccer student-athlete received the test COVID-19 between July 1 and July 15 group test dates based on comments from daily health questionnaires. Student-athlete, who was mildly symptomatic, tested positive. Self-isolated and recovering well. Contacts, four soccer student-athletes are in self-quarantine, all of whom are asymptomatic at this time.Overall, Notre Dame has administered 356 COVID-19 tests to soccer program members and athletic department staff, with two positive tests. “
Notre Dame is expected to open the season against the Navy over Labor Day weekend on ESPN. The two teams are expected to play in Annapolis, Maryland, at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The 94th consecutive game of the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in the country will be played over Labor Day weekend. However, the full schedule and all related details have yet to be determined.
“Our student athletes have had great experiences competing in Ireland and are very disappointed not to return to Dublin in 2020,” said Jack Swarbrick, vice president and athletic director James E. Rohr at Notre Dame. “The change of venue has been a very difficult decision for our colleagues at the Naval Academy, but we fully support their choice. We are also grateful for all that our partners in Ireland have done to make this a smooth transition. We hope to return to Ireland for a game in the not too distant future. ”
