Julian Solomita, Jenna Mourey’s longtime partner, the YouTuber known as Jenna Marbles, addressed her girlfriend’s departure from the platform in an emotional note posted on TwitLonger Friday. In it, Solomita confirmed that he would take a break from his own channel, which has nearly 2.5 million subscribers on its own: Mourey’s has more than 20 million, and was the most subscribed YouTuber for several years.

Solomita wrote that he “will return to the Internet”, but needed time to “take care” of Mourey, who with tears in his eyes announced that he would leave YouTube indefinitely in an apology video for old and offensive content on his channel. Solomita also addressed the couple’s joint podcast and Twitch broadcast, saying “they don’t have a definitive answer” about the future of both companies.

“Jenna is the strongest person I know, but no one is meant to handle the pressure of pleasing the entire Internet week after week for a decade,” Solomita wrote. “The mental and emotional cost that comes with it, and the conflicting emotions at play when you inevitably make the decision to walk away. That decision has come.” [sic]”

He went on to say that Mourey is entering a “new chapter” that will allow him to “feel like a person again”, writing that a “massive weight” has fallen on Mourey’s shoulders.

“If anyone deserves a sunset stroll, it’s Jenna,” Solomita wrote. “It has been a beacon of light for many people. She has shared her humility, kindness and love with all of you. She has allowed you to enter her life with open arms and hugs from the Internet. Now is the time when Jenna cares. [sic]”

Solomita also thanked her friends and fans for sharing messages of support after Mourey’s video on Thursday, which included OG YouTuber apologizing for the old and heartfelt videos of his copycat rapper Nicki Minaj, rapping racist lyrics about Asian men in a song by parody, and making comments that “bitch embarrassed” women.

Many of Mourey’s OG colleagues on YouTube expressed their support and praised his content on Twitter after the video, including Joey Graceffa, Anthony Padilla and Hank Green.
