Jose Abreu’s three home runs led the cunning Chicago White Sox past the Cubs

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox’s recent power outage breaks records as they hit five more home runs on Saturday night in a 7-4 victory over the crosstown Chicago Cubs. Jose Abreu led the charge with his first career game three-homer, a day after he hit two straps at Wrigley Field.

“I just enjoy the moment and trying to understand this is a great moment for this organization and this team,” Abreu told MLB.com and other reporters after the game. “We just have to keep pushing.

In all, the White Sox have hit 27 long balls in the past seven days, setting a premier league record for home games over that time frame. They have already gone nine times deep in the first two games of their series against the Cubs, both winning. In fact, their past 19 runs have all been scored by the home team.

“You see the difference on both sides at the moment,” Cubs manager David Ross said. “You see a crime that really clicks on all the cylinders with a ton of confidence, and our boys are still trying to get to the battle. … We’re just not there right now.”

Abreu hit his three home runs from three different pitchers when he scored his eighth of the year off starting ball Kyle Hendricks in the sixth inning, his ninth off Rowan Wick in the eighth inning and his 10th of the season off Duane Underwood Jr. . in the ninth inning. He also sang and ran while riding in four runs.

“He does it every year,” said Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo of Abreu. “He’s been a staple there … he’s one of the most underrated first basemen in the game, in my opinion.”

After the first two games of the series, Abreu beats .322 with an OPS of 1,013, finishing 12th in baseball. The Sox have won seven in a row.
