Depp’s eight-figure salary is higher than that of co-stars Eddie Redmain and Jude Law.

Johnny Depp will not appear in the upcoming third “Fantastic Beasts” movie, but he will receive the full eight-figure salary he earned for reprimanding Grindelwald’s role in the sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp filmed a single scene for “Fantastic Beasts 3” before exiting the project. Depp and Warner Bros. announced on November 6 that the actor was resigning from the franchise after losing a defamation case against The Sun.
According to a THR report: “Warner Bros. will be on the hook for Depp’s full pay, although he has only shot one scene since construction began in London on 20 September. Like many A-list stars, Depp had a so-called pay-or-play contract, which required full compensation for whether or not a film was made, even if it was re-run. As common as the stars of his level are, there was no clause of morality in his covenant, though it was revised with each new installment. Technically, Depp was not fired by Warner Bros. but was asked to resign. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. “
Before playing the lead role in the 2018 sequel “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”, Depp made his “Fantastic Beasts” appearance in a brief cameo appearance in the first film of 2016. THRA reports that Depp should have the same screen time for Eddie Redmain and Jude Law in the third “Fantastic Beasts” movie. The film will hit theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022. ”
The studio has since announced that “Fantastic Beasts 3” will open in theaters on July 15, 2022.
