Defamation trial of Johnny Depp against Sun The publisher National News Group has taken an eschatological turn. Depp is suing the company over a 2018 headline who called him a “handcuff puncher” after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, filed for a restraining order and a divorce on domestic violence charges. (Depp has denied all allegations of abuse.)
On Wednesday, the court heard arguments about Heard’s testimony that Depp tried to spell his name in urine after a violent fight, and Depp’s accusation that Heard took a “whopper poop” on the couple’s bed.
NGN’s defense is based on 14 horrific allegations of abuse, which Heard claims that in his written testimony occurred between 2013 and 2016. Heard claims that Depp has been struggling with substance use problems, and that he repeatedly and physically abused her verbally while I was drugged.
On Wednesday Daily mail NGN attorney Sasha Wass reportedly questioned witnesses about Depp’s alleged attempt to spell Heard’s name out of his own urine after an explosive fight that tore apart his rented house in Australia in 2015, the same fight as ended with Depp’s finger cut off.
Heard alleged that during the fight Depp slapped and shoved her, leaving cuts and bruises. Property manager Ben King testified that he saw cuts to Heard’s arms after the fight. (“They were enough for me to say ‘maybe you should put your sleeve on,'” he said, Daily mail.)
King also testified that he supervised the cleaning of the house, a process that took more than 12 hours. He said he was “pretty sure” that there was no urine in the home, Daily mail reports. “I didn’t see any sign of urine and I didn’t smell it, as I would have if someone had urinated in the house,” King said.
Meanwhile, Depp has denied being able to do something like that with his severed finger. (Depp claims that his finger was cut when Heard threw a bottle of vodka at him; Heard said it was done during an attack that made him fear for his life.)
The court also heard arguments about whether Depp was angry or amused when feces were found in the couple’s bed after a fight. According to the Daily mailHe wrote in a text message to a friend: “My wife left a poop on my bed” and nicknamed “Amber Turd”.
Depp claims that Heard or one of his friends left the stool on the bed; Heard says it was one of his dogs, Pistol and Boo.
Kevin Murphy, a property manager who worked for Depp for several years, stated that he was “sullen” about the incident, for The Daily Mail. “At that stage, I think he suggested that a DNA test be done on the stool to see where it came from,” Murphy said.
“At that stage, I think he suggested a stool DNA test be done to see where they came from …“
When Wass suggested that Depp’s texts seem to be fun, Daily mail He reports that Murphy replied, “I think he’s being sarcastic, I wouldn’t agree with that, no.”
Murphy also echoed the suggestion that Depp and several of his supporting witnesses have put forward: that Heard’s allegations are part of a long-standing, elaborate “hoax”.
Heard’s former assistant Kate James testified that Heard “twisted” a story James had shared with her about a sexual assault for her own purposes.
James said he had told Heard that he had been threatened with a machete and raped in Brazil decades ago, and that he was surprised to see that Heard had “twisted him into his own story” in his witness testimony, according to The Hollywood reporter.
“I am a survivor of sexual violence and that is very, very serious,” James said, “take that position if you are not one.”
Murphy also testified that Heard asked him to commit perjury when she was accused of illegally bringing the couple’s dogs to Australia in 2016. She claimed that she threatened her job. “She wanted me to essentially say it was my fault in one way or another that the paperwork was not completed, so that I could blame it on her,” he said. THR.
“I want your help on this,” Heard allegedly told Murphy. “I don’t want you to have a problem with your job.”
James also testified that both she and Murphy had urged the couple not to bring the dogs to Australia. Wass suggested that she had collaborated with Depp to give a false testimony about Heard, that James said “it just isn’t true.”
Heard will provide his own evidence in the case later this week, Hollywood reporter notes
Responding to the ongoing trial in a statement to Vanity Fair, a representative for Heard wrote: “Amber never requested that these procedures be carried out. Amber obtained a domestic violence restraining order against Depp in 2016 and has tried to move on with her life. It is Johnny Depp who initiated this process against a British newspaper and dragged it into the UK courts to testify to some of the most distressing moments of her life. “
