John Lynch unhappy with Raheem Mostert’s commercial request

Raheem Mostert got what he wanted. The 49ers renegotiated their deal this week, giving him a signing bonus and incentives that could double his $ 2.875 million salary in 2020.

But the way the runner did it didn’t necessarily thrill the 49ers.

Mostert made a commercial request public through his agent in early July.

“My reaction was, ‘What the hell are you doing? Let’s go now,'” Lynch said this week on KNBR, through Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “I was not happy.”

Everyone is fine now.

Mostert is presumably happy with the compromise and makes more money a year after signing a three-year extension. The 49ers will presumably have a happy Mostert, who had a great season in 2020.

Mostert ran for 772 yards and scored 10 touchdowns in the regular season and added 336 yards with five touchdowns in the postseason.

“Now, I love Raheem and I love his family,” said Lynch. “Sometimes it’s frustrating during these [negotiations]. But I was a player, so I understand that you don’t speak directly to a player. You are talking to an agent.

“And sometimes I think that is why there may be things lost in communication. What we finally did [in revising his contract]We always plan to do it, so it’s frustrating that that has had to happen. But the cooler heads had to prevail, and we had to understand that Raheem is a very important player for our team. “
