Now that we’re calmed down to the news about baby number three for Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, we can return to our regular schedule programming of all their food recipes and lovely anties. The latest (recipe, that is) to hit Chrissy’s YouTube channel is John’s “kid-friendly” kipper tenders and they look so good that even adults will like them.
John has previously shown his baked chicken recipe on Chrissy’s channel, but said these toppers are an option more compatible for Luna and Miles. You can serve the tender with whatever dipping sauce you like, but John took viewers through the step-by-step process of making dipping sauce from Chrissy’s mustard soup.
First things first, John cut some chicken into thin pieces, before marinating it in buttermilk, garlic powder, cayenne and Lawry’s herbs. He said it is important to marinate the chicken for a while, whether it is overnight or from morning until dinner. Once marinated for several hours, the breading that John uses is a mixture of flour, baking powder, lawries, cayenne, and a little buttermilk to help it stick.
While I covered each piece of chicken in breading, John served up one of the toughest tasks I’ve heard in a while. Apparently he is not a fan of chicken nuggets at all so I think of each his own. “I’m not a person with chicken meat. I almost feel that they should be banned because they are gross. I just feel like they taste very much like fake meat. Chicken bans taste like real meat,” he said.
Then John made some of Chrissy’s honey mustard business by mixing mayo, buttermilk, Dijon mustard, honey, salt, pepper, oregano, garlic, onion powder, cayenne, and paprika. From there, he ate the tenders until they were golden brown and flattened them with the dipping sauce.
To show how child-friendly they are, Luna jumped on the counter and took a bite for herself. From the looks of it, she’s a fan of food and John enjoys making them. “I love eating chicken. It’s one of my favorite things,” he said.
