Joe Burrow finally signed a four-year, $ 36.1 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday after being voted No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft in April.
His father, coach Jimmy Burrow, spoke in a radio interview Wednesday morning with WNXX-FM, 104.5’s Off the Bench to discuss his son’s signing process.
“We finally got him out of our basement,” Jimmy Burrow joked.
The QB’s father said that, like any contract in any business, there were negotiations to be done before Joe put the pen on paper.

“It was a process,” he said. “You had to correct the language. As a parent, you get a little nervous when it’s not a deal.”
He said that once the principle of contact was finally agreed, it made everyone “feel really good.”
“Robin and I are happy. Joe is happy. He is happy to have that part behind him.”
Coach Burrow also discussed how the current Heisman winner prepared for professional soccer during the global pandemic, which included hours of Zoom meetings with the Bengals coaching staff.
“He installed a lot of the playbook. He has also been pitching with a couple of his high school friends at his old third and fourth grade driving range.”
The Bengals are expected to begin performing at training camp this week.
