NFL career

Bugel was a lifelong coach in the NFL who created the famous offensive line “Hogs” when he was the Redskins ‘line coach in the 1980s. Led by Russ Grimm and Joe Jacoby, the Redskins’ offensive line helped the team to win two Super Bowls with a powerful running game with John Riggins running after the “Hogs”. Bugel came up with the name in a practice and the group became famous, even doing commercials. He left Washington to be the head coach at Phoenix from 1990 to 1993 and then ended his career with the Redskins.
