Joe Budden Away from Spotify Exclusive Podcast Deal

Joe Budden has announced his popular program The Joe Budden Podcast with Rory and Mal will no longer broadcast on Spotify, as well Variation and the Verge report. Budden announced the news in the latest episode of the podcast, which was released earlier today (August 26). “On September 23, I can not tell you where this podcast will be,” Budden said. “But as it stands, I can tell you where it’s not going to be, and that’s Spotify.” The show has been the exclusive podcast of Spotify for the past two years.

According to Variation and the edge, Budden stated that the streaming service “plundered” its audience. Budden has reportedly spent much of the three-and-a-half-hour podcast describing his deal with Spotify. Budden also stated that the streaming giant “never worried about this podcast.” Budden also said the podcast was “undermined and underestimated.” Budden suggested that only seven episodes of the podcast be released on Spotify.

On Thursday, August 27, a Spotify Pitchfork spokesperson made the following statement:

It was our wish to keep Joe Budden on Spotify. When Joe referred to his show, we made him a substantial offer – one that was significantly larger and many times the value of the existing deal and reflected the current market and size of his audience. Unfortunately we could not agree and we respect his wishes to find a new home for his show.
