“I hope we are able to tell him that America explicitly denied this cruelty.”

Addressing the issue of reuniting about 500 immigrant children with their parents last month, Phoenix and Mara wrote, “As new parents, it is unbearable to imagine our child being deprived of us for a day, let alone years.”

“But it’s the same situation that 5 545 children and their parents are going through.”

“As Americans, it is our responsibility to continue to pay attention to the plight of these families and to get answers as to why they have not yet arrived.”

“How does he feel to explain to our son, when he asks us about this time and how we treat frightened, defenseless children, some of whom will probably never see their parents again?”

“For the sake of our nation’s character, I hope we will be able to tell him that the United States explicitly denied this cruelty and demanded that our representatives do everything in their power to find our missing parents.”
