Two major life events and a realization about his father the summer before Season 12 solidified his decision.
It was a shocking decision that the television landscape may have changed forever, and for the longest time no one knew why he did it.
Jim Parsons was the biggest star on television’s biggest sitcom and then, after 12 successful years, he ran it all away.
Syn “Big Bang Theory” co-stars commented that they were ready to go ahead, making it clear that it was Parson’s decision that ended the series while it was still at the top of the ratings.

Well, in a new one podcast interview with another actor who knows a thing or two about leaving while he’s still up – “Doctor Who’s Tenth Doctor, David Tennant – Parsons opened up about the emotional and physical tax months leading up to his final decision.
The final contract the cast signed was a two-year deal that they carried out through season 12. Parsons admitted he suspected he might have been done, but “you never say never and who knows.”
But then the summer before that final season hit him with a one-two punch of physical and emotional turmoil he could not deny. “I was exhausted, and I was really overwhelmed about, more than anything, one of our dogs was then really run over at the end of his life,” he said.
At the same time, he died in a play and he was not afraid to be when her beloved pet passed by. Eventually he was, because he and his husband agreed to put their dog to sleep at home.

While still mourning that loss, he then broke his foot on stage and he felt this enormous pressure of what that could mean for the production.
“I felt like I was on the edge of a cliff, and I fell, and I saw between the dog’s death something really dark. And I do not know what they would have done if I could not have gotten back. for the play, ”he said.
Of course, his absence would have had an equally detrimental effect on “The Big Bang Theory,” as evidenced by the fact that no one chose to continue the show when he said he was done. He was just too much at heart.
It was when considering all of these things, and after thinking about loss with the death of his dog, that Parsons had a realization about himself and his father, who died at the age of 52. Parsons was 46 at the time.

“This is what I said to Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro when I spoke to them when I went back to work next year,” Parsons shared. “I said, ‘If you told me I, like my father, had six years left to live, I think there are other things I should try and do.'”
Perhaps had life events not happened as they had, fans would have been able to enjoy a 13th season of “The Big Bang Theory”. As it is, however, Parsons almost followed those ‘other things’ away.
Of course, he continues as the narrator of the spinoff series “Young Sheldon.” He also produces a new comedy “Call Me Cat”, with his wife “Big Bang” on the wife of Mayim Bialik.
And he continues to stretch himself as an actor, recently scoring an Emmy pin for his role in Ryan Murphy’s “Hollywood,” while also turning heads on the big screen with roles in films such as “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.”
