Jill Dugar Dillard explains her separation from her famous family

Dougger Dillard, who rose to fame with her parents and sisters on the TLC series “19 Kids and Counting,” spoke to People’s Magazine about how she and her husband, Derrick Dillard, have changed their lives since leaving the family business.

“I never expect this to happen or it will reach this point,” he told the publication. “But I realize I can’t set a timeline for healing. I love my family and they love me. I really have to follow God’s lead and take it one day at a time.”

Dugar Dillard, 29, and her 31-year-old husband are now the parents of two young sons. They talked about the show, which featured a very religious and conservative Duggar family, as well as that spin-off, “Counting On.”

She said: “Our control over choosing which jobs we were allowed to accept and where we were allowed to live has been taken away from us.”

Derrick Dillard added: “In the first few years of our marriage, when we set aside time and money just to work towards opportunities, we will be told, ‘Well, you are not allowed to do that.’

The couple said it has not been better to move on by pulling out of the family business.

Jill’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duger, told the people in a statement: “Every family has a difference of opinion and outlook at some point, but families work from this.”

“We all love Jill, Derrick and their boys so much,” they said. “Our prayer is that our relationship heals and ends quickly!”

Dougger Dillard also talked about adopting some of the things in his well-to-do family, including getting a nose ring, using birth control, and occasionally drinking alcohol.

“Sometimes it’s good to be okay with other people not being okay,” he said.
