Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he expects team fans to celebrate at their home games this fall and focused on his current view of national anthem protests in his first public comment of the 2020 season on Wednesday.
Jones, 77, declined to estimate how many fans could be personally allowed to attend games in person at AT&T Stadium, which has a normal capacity of more than 100,000 under normal circumstances. However, the longtime owner of Cowboys expressed confidence in the team’s ability to maintain a safe environment for the home crowd at its newest facility.
“The Dallas Cowboys are going to play football, and we are going to play for our fans,” Jones said during a virtual press conference of the Cowboys training camp. “I find it important. I find it individually important. I find it important for the country.”

Jones notes that the Cowboys would stay ‘on all protocols’ and ‘adapt to the uniqueness of our stadium’ to host an audience. Earlier, the franchise announced that it would put a stop to ticket packages for seasons before the 2020 season and limit the capacity at AT&T Stadium to comply with local guidelines for public health.
A number of NFL teams, including the New York Jets and New York Giants, are expected to attend this fall without any fans. The NFL announced earlier this summer that all fans allowed to attend games will be required to wear face masks.
“We will have our challenges, the people who will be there will be there on their own will, just like the players who are in this field for the Cowboys are here because they have chosen to be here. to be, ”Jones added. “Our fans will be in the stadium because they chose to be there.”

Jones also addressed the possibility of national anthem protests this season in the wake of nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd.
The Cowboys have a long-standing policy that players must stand for the national anthem before games. Jones did not say whether that policy would remain in effect this season, but noted that he would work with players to tailor the team’s approach to the situation, seeing the ongoing protests against race as unfair.
“I have nothing to prove where I stand with the flag and where the Cowboys stand,” Jones said. “I have nothing to prove about my players and my support of the players. What I want us to show and be a part of is a word called ‘grace’. Not only grace in our actions, but grace in our understanding of where they come from. “
