The NFL offseason passed without the normal stream of announcements about draft picks signing their first professional contracts. This is because the NFL limited its teams to low season online programs.
The rookies did not travel to their new home cities to practice, which meant that they were not available to perform the physical exams that precede the signing of the contract.
With NFL rookies reporting for their first practice camps this week, the pace of contract deals and recruiter signatures has picked up in the fast lane.
The Denver Broncos selected Jerry Jeudy with the 15th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and the former Alabama wide receiver unusually announced Thursday that he and the team had agreed to the terms of the contract.
Jeudy posted a video via social media featuring the best moments from some of the Broncos’ best players of the past: John Elway, Ed McCaffrey, Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, Von Miller and Peyton Manning, with the captions “I greet the big ones. I aspire to be one “before appearing to announce:” We have accepted the terms. “
Jeudy will sign a $ 15.192 million contract with a full four-year guarantee that includes a signing bonus of $ 8.61 million.
GREAT RECEIVER U? ‘IT HAS TO BE ALABAMA’, SAYS JERRY JEUDY
Players selected in the first round receive four-year contracts that have a team option for a fifth season. Players selected in the other six rounds sign four-year contracts, but without the team’s option.
The values of those contracts are not negotiable, but are based on the NFL salary cap of $ 198.2 million for the 2020 season and this year’s rookie compensation group on a formula set forth in the League’s Negotiating Collective Bargaining Agreement. and its players association. Prior to the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement, contract negotiations for selection projects had no such restriction.
Of the 21 Alabama high school and college players recruited in April, 18 have accepted the terms or signed their rookie contracts.
