It would not be a major victory for Bayern Munich without at least one injury, now would it? This team is persistently followed and plagued by the injury gods, and the 4-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 second leg was no different.
Although the extent of the injuries is not entirely clear at this time, Jerome Boateng and Alphonso Davies maintained light blows during the match that caused them to recover. Boateng was subbed off, while Davies’ injury happened in stoppage time after Hansi Flick had already made all five substitutions available.
Boateng stepped up with an apparent knee problem after he uncomfortably landed from a diving head towards Manuel Neuer when he was locked near Bayern’s chest halfway through the second half. He received a few minutes of treatment on the field before going to the sideline to continue with judged by the physio of Bayern. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 63 minutes into the game, Niklas Sule had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. Speaking after the match, Flick said that Boateng’s blow was not something serious, according to the information he received from Bayern’s medical staff:
Flick warns Boateng: “I do not think Jérôme is that bad. That’s the information they received from the medical department. ‘ #fcbayern @SPORTBILD @BILD_Sport

Davies pulled up with what looked like a case of cramping in stoppage time after making an approach to the left flank. He received treatment on the sidelines of Bayern’s physios and did not return to the match as a precaution. There’s no official word on Davies yet, so it’s assumed it was just a cramp in his calf muscles. Respectively, Willy Caballero helped him stretch his leg when he initially hit the deck near Chelsea.
Flick also provided an update on Benjamin Pavard after the game. His future was uncertain after suffering an ankle ligament injury, but Flick did not rule out the French’s involvement in the tournament in Lisbon, Portugal. He referred to Pavard as ‘iron’.
Flick has not yet given up hope of a Pavard effort at the tournament in Lisbon: “Benji is iron. He tries everything. “ #fcbayern @BILD_Sport @SPORTBILD
