Jemal Jamal Adams breaks head coach Adam Gase: “I don’t feel like I’m the right leader for this organization.”

Disgruntled New York Jets star Jamal Adams is clearing the air about his relationship with head coach Adam Gase and, unfortunately for Gase, things are not going well.

In an article published Friday, Adams told the New York Daily News that he doesn’t think Gase is right for the Jets and that his training style is not something he can support.

“I don’t feel like I’m the right leader for this organization to get to the Promised Land,” Adams said, apparently referring to the Super Bowl. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that you don’t have a relationship with everyone in the building.”

Adams went on to say that there is an obvious disconnect between Gase and the players.

“If there is a problem in the locker room, let another coach address the team. If we’re playing sh — and we’re losing, he doesn’t address the whole team as a group at halftime. He will leave the locker room and let another coach handle it.

Adams’ view of the situation was very different from Gase’s last month when he told reporters during a conference call that the two have a “good” relationship and that he wants him to stay with the Jets.

“I want Jamal on our team,” Gase said bluntly. “He has been one of our best players and most consistent guys we had last year. The value he brings to this team and what he does not only on game day, but also in practice. “

He continued: “My relationship with Jamal has been good from the moment I got here. We had a lot of discussions throughout the season trying to find ways to win. For me, we have always gotten along well. There has been a lot of dialogue between us, especially on issues of type on and off the field. “

The difference of opinion represents a bigger communication problem within the organization as a whole, which Adams said played a major role in his request to be changed this offseason.

According to Adams, general manager Joe Douglas told him they would discuss his contract in the offseason. As the months went by and the team began signing more rookies, Adams said the conversation changed.

“If they had just said, ‘You know what, Jamal, we are not going to try to pay you this year, we want to keep adding players,’ I would have respected that more,” he said. “I would say, ‘You know what? I respect it. As a man, I understand it. I understand that it is a business. But for them to tell me they are going to pay me and then do not send a proposal after saying that is what they were going to do. do, that’s where we went wrong. And so you ignore me, that’s why I have a problem.

Regardless of Adams’ fate with the Jets, he says he’ll be there for training camp next week.

“I’m performing for my teammates,” said Adams. “Obviously my love and passion for the game is very simple. Just turn on the tape and watch. It doesn’t matter if we are winning or losing or if we are flying, I am still the same guy. I will not change my tempo as to how I play on the field. I will never stop. At the end of the day, I am trying to be the best player to have played in my position. Or at least one of them. That is my goal. I will not let anyone take that goal from me. “
