Jeep’s future direction will be unveiled next week with the introduction of two new SUVs: a concept version of the revived Grand Wagonier and a hybrid electric version of the brand’s flagship Wrangler SUV.

Both vehicles represent new opportunities for the clever American brand and its parent company, Fiat Chrysler, which is slow to adopt electric vehicles and expand the Jeep into larger SUVs. They are new parts for share tomer to increase market share and profit.

The Grand Wagonier Concept represents the future design and technology of the production versions of the Wagonier and Grand Wagonier SUVs, which will be in the showroom next year. Concept vehicles often also set a new design direction for the brand as a whole.

Stephanie Brinley, chief automotive analyst at IHS Markets, said the big thing for Jeep is that it puts them in a segment in which they do not participate. “For them, increasing sales and continuing to grow the brand is probably the strongest step. It makes sense for Jeep to move into this space and it should be a profitable space.”

Vehicles are expected to participate in the mainstream and luxury large SUV segment. Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley, who was leading the Jeep brand in 2016, said the top end could reach the top of the Grand Wagonier 100,000.

It is unclear whether the Grand Wagonier, which was last built in 1991, will be a different model or the Wagonier’s high-end trim, which was discontinued in 1983.

On Friday, a company spokesman declined to comment on prices or the status of long-awaited vehicles.

The revival of the Grand Wagonier – known for its wooden paneling – was first confirmed in 2011 by the late Manly’s predecessor, Sergio Marchione. Since then, the vehicle has been delayed several times due to production plans and other problems.

Jeep Grand Wagonier is releasing teaser photos of the concept as well as videos of the Rangler Hybrid Electric SUV on social media. Sept. 3 on both vehicles Jeep’s YouTube and Facebook pages. Will be unveiled at 9 p.m.

The Wrangler will be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle or PHEV, which means it will still have a conventional internal combustion engine and electric powertrain. That U.S. The first type for the Jeep is the “4xe” badge on the vehicle, which is a play on Jeep’s reputation as a Je-F-Road brand.

The company has said that all of its Jeep models – traditionally known as gas-guzzling SUVs – will provide full or partial electrification by 2022. The company already has a plug-in hybrid version of its small Renegade and Compass SUVs in Europe.

“Going for PHEV space for them is expanding the company’s electrification,” Brinley said. “They are behind the others … The FC decided to let the market mature a bit before entering the market.”

The Wrangler 4xe is expected in US showrooms in December, according to the company.
