EXCLUSIVE: Even with Venom: Let There Be Carnage en Morbius postponed until 2021, Sony Pictures will continue to build its line of Marvel movies. Sources tell Deadline that JC Chandor is in talks to direct Sony’s Kraven de Jager, the latest film to gain momentum in the studio’s Universe of Marvel Characters.
Sony had no comment.
Sony is continuing to build a healthy development slate of Spider-Man characters to be competitive photos from other studios that are currently in development. Neist Venom 2 and Jared Leto’s Morbius, the studio recently hired SJ Clarkson to direct her untitled Madame Web pic and tapped Marc Guggenheim to write her Jackpot film. The following installation in the Spider-Man franchise is also starting to shoot this winter.

This comes less than 24 hours after Deadline broke the news that Olivia Wilde would be directing an untitled Marvel movie for Sony centered around the Spider-Woman character. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post, especially since Chandor’s deal has not yet been finalized, but Sony is clearly stacking its slate with Marvel characters.
Even before this new cinematic universe set in motion, Kraven de Jager is a property that the studio longs to create. Richard Wenk, who penned The equalizer movies for Sony, wrote the script. The comedy revolves around Sergei Kravinoff alias Kraven the Hunter, who is one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies as the Chameleon’s half brother. The character has appeared in several Spider-Man features, including the popular story Kraven’s Last Hunt.
Chandor is better known for his character-driven adult dramas as well Margin call, A most violent year and most recently Netflix Triple Frontier, and this would mark his first time taking a large studio tent pole. Even though this would be his first big budget feature, Chandor has shown an ability to pull off impressive set pieces like the car rear end A most violent year that shows he has the kettles to take that kind of action Kraven de Jager would require.
