A New Zealand teenager could be the next champion on the UK singles chart.
Jawsh 685 (real name Joshua Nanai), the 17-year-old producer from Auckland, leads the first official chart with “Savage Love (Laxed Beat – Siren)” (RCA), his viral success with American R&B star Jason Derulo.
An instrumental cut from “Savage Love” exploded on TikTok and created the “Culture Dance” challenge, which invited users to celebrate their heritage in dance.
The Derulo-voiced version flew 22-4 in its first two weeks on the UK’s official singles chart and is the best-performing after sales and broadcast activity over the weekend.
If he maintains his position when the weekly poll is released this Friday, it will give Derulo his fifth No. 1 in the UK, and Jawsh 685 the first.
