We may not be getting the full box office experience in the theater anytime soon (unless you’re here risking your life and limbs for Star Wars), but Netflix seems ready to pick up at least some of the slack with sci-fi actionsuspense novel Power project. The next movie stars Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who learn of a pill that grants superpowers to those who dare to participate for five minutes. These supercharged pills are also life-threatening, which is to be expected from something that can literally turn you into a fireball.
Here’s the official Netflix synopsis:
On the streets of New Orleans, word is out about a mysterious new pill that unlocks unique superpowers for each user. The trick: you don’t know what will happen until you take it. While some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a more deadly reaction. But when the pill increases crime within the city to dangerous levels, a local police officer (Levitt) teams with a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) and a former soldier fed by a secret vendetta (Foxx) to fight power with power and take risks taking the pill to track down and stop the group responsible for creating it.
Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost directed Project Power, which will premiere on Netflix on August 14. Check out the trailer below.
