Jacob DeGrom Scritted With Stiff Neck, Walker Lockett To Start Instead

Update (15:59 hours):

Jacob deGrom has to deal with a stiff neck and will not show up on Friday, Jon Heyman reports.

deGrom felt uncomfortable in the neck after his start against the Marlins on Sunday. It lasted through the entire week and happened to him during a bullpen session on Thursday.

An MRI did not reveal any structural problems, deGrom said. He was able to turn it around, but decided not to push it.

Walker Lockett will make his debut in 2020 and start in place of deGrom. Lockett has been on the injured list with a stiff back since opening time.

In nine appearances (four starts) in 2019, he recorded an 8.34 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 22.2 innings.
